I hope you had a lovely Christmas and best wishes for 2018. I’m not a big one for New Year’s resolutions. Mainly ‘cos I never seem to keep up with them. I say ‘them’ – I usually have just one! For many years I have resolved to finish the year with fewer UFOs than I … Continue reading Happy New Year!!
I don't know about the rest of you, but I am the kind of person who cannot just concentrate on one thing at once, and so I love to have something to listen to while I'm sewing. Right now my sewing soundtrack is Anais Mitchell's Hadestown. It's a modern retelling of the Orpheus and Eurydice myth … Continue reading 5 Days till Christmas: Listen while you sew

A bit of wintry inspiration from Hallstatt in Austria: pattern, colour, decoration, and just general mood. Do you ever really need an excuse to bake? Christmas must be the best excuse of all. For me, thanks to a Swedish cookbook I was given as a kid, it's not officially Christmas until I have baked cinnamon rolls. Here is a recipe, but plenty of others are available, and if you happen to be … Continue reading 17 days till Christmas: Great Christmas Bake Off!

One option, as above, is simply to decorate a tree-like structure with bunting or patchwork quilted stars. If you're not that fussed about it being … Continue reading 18 days till Christmas: Alternative Christmas tree
Here is a nice thing to do with leftover bits of fabric: patchwork decorations. As you can see, they don't even need to be Christmas fabrics in order to create a Christmassy feel! I chose to make stars, but you could also make little Christmas trees out of triangles. Or, if you enjoy appliqué, the … Continue reading 19 days till Christmas: Patchwork decorations
Do you write a big, long list of presents you'd love for Christmas - or do you find it really hard to think of things you would like? If your nearest and dearest are asking for ideas, why not get a quilter's present list together? Christmas can be a great time to get all those … Continue reading 21 days till Christmas: All I want for Christmas…
Who loves a new pair of pyjamas at Christmas? I know I do. I save them until Christmas Eve and then it's all part of the excitement before the big day. I love nice, cosy-warm, snuggly pyjamas made in flannel or brushed cotton. And a cheerful Christmas print is a must. So this year, I'm … Continue reading 22 days till Christmas: Christmas pyjamas
